Duties / Responsibilities (Including Objectives of the role):

Purpose of role:

Deliver vehicle test and development activities as required to achieve Lotus targets for HVAC, thermal performance and functionality.

Main duties:
  • Maintain continuous communication with management, design and CAE teams throughout development process
  • Hands on technical delivery of vehicle development projects to cost, quality and time
  • To assess, develop and validate the performance of all vehicle thermal systems including powertrain cooling, transmission cooling, auxiliary systems cooling and HVAC systems. Also to include thermal protection for all vehicle, structure and body system components. 
  • Ensure thermal systems development is in line with VTS’s, DVP’s, test procedures and project plans.
  • Plan, co-ordinate and deliver vehicle/system thermal test and vehicle development activities as defined by the vehicle development programmes
  • Report on test findings via both summary and formal reports and where necessary co-ordinate activities to identify root cause and resolution of issues
  • Develop specific test procedures and processes as required
  • Liaise with and control offsite test activities both remotely and in person
Qualifications and Experience (Essential & Desirable criteria)
Essential:
  • Mechanical or Automotive Engineering Degree
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of vehicle engineering
  • Strong diagnostic skills and understanding of engineering first principles
  • In depth understanding of vehicle cooling and HVAC systems, climate control including physical testing and development 
  • Experience of industry test facilities MIRA, Millbrook, Calsonic, Nardo IDIADA etc for physical vehicle sign of tests
  • Competent level of driving ability focussed around road vehicle development and high speed thermal sign off testing
  • Methodical and scientific approach to problem solving
  • Automotive vehicle thermal cooling and HVAC development experience gained from multiple vehicle development programmes
  • Strong data analysis and processing skills related to vehicle cooling and HVAC systems
  • Good communication and presentation skills
  • A high level PC skills expected (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint and Project)
  • Full UK driving licence
