Duties / Responsibilities (Including Objectives of the role):
To work in the Vehicle Integration group as a packaging engineer with the additional responsibility for seating bucks, aeromodels and concept component design for basic prove out mules.
To work within the vehicle integration as the lead person for mules, aeromodels, bucks and ergonomics, this will also mean a good understanding of both interior packaging and overall vehicle packaging is required.
This role gives the candidate the opportunity to work on class leading prestige sports cars. Lotus is under new management who are investing heavily in facilities and people, with this level of expansion there are a number of roles that this candidate could progress to.
The candidate will need to initially support the concept phase of a new model development and will then be required tro provide support throughout the production phase of the project through to final part sign-off and release. They will be expected to work with guidance from the Vehicle Integration Lead and the Chief Engineer Vehicle Integration to provide the required engineering support to the design community and design studio. There will be a requirement to run appropriate meetings and ensure schemes are focused and delivered as required.
If required guide less experienced members of the package team.
They will be expected to work closely with the Systems Engineers, Designers, Clay modellers and CAS modellers to deliver specific studies to support the successful delivery of the future product as appropriate.
The candidate will be required to maintain Catia products to act as a master reference and ensure these are kept up to date and stored correctly within the Lotus data management system. They will also need to provide some concept schemes and create legislative models.
They will be expected to work with the other function groups supporting the project.
1. General packaging and concept scheme development within package group.
2. Ergonomically agreed seating buck with respect to the physical product and deliver of CAD to create it.
3. Efficient and effective assessment of seating buck and interpretation of results into quantifiable CAD models that are easily understood by the design community and stand up to customer and managerial scrutiny.
4. Delivery of CAD and physical aero models and some components for early prove out pre M1 mules as required.
5. Must have previous experience of arranging physical buck reviews and CAD based ergonomic studies.
Qualifications and Experience (Essential & Desirable criteria)
  • Engineering Degree/HND or equivalent
  • Experience of concept and detail design of mechanical and automotive components
  • Experience of aeromodels, mules and seating bucks
  • Experience of full vehicle packaging
  • Ability to run efficient meetings
  • Ability to deliver on time and work to a plan
  • Good presentation skills
  • Good level of ability with office programmes including Excel, Word and Power Point
  • Must have high level of competency with Catia V5, being able to create and manipulate models
  • Previous experience of CAD data management in particular Team Centre is desirable
  • Previous experience of full vehicle programmes from concept to production
  • Ability to create solutions to problems with minimal guidance

  • Support design process from the sketch phase through to Clay/CAS model
  • Ensure the design meeting the technical requirements in terms of performance, legal requirements, cost and part manufacture and assembly
  • Experience of assessing and building ergonomic seating bucks in order to set criteria targets
